Getting a Handle on Your Pumpkin Pie, Apple Cider and Content Marketing Ingredients

pumpkin pieCan I just say fall is my most absolute favorite season? For all you beach-going, BBQ-obsessed people out there, this may come as a shock, but honestly, if I lived in a land that was 68 degrees and sunny every day, I would be as happy as a clam. From the beautiful foliage to the bumpy hay rides to the autumn sweaters, fall is my nirvana.

And don’t even get me started on pumpkin pie, apple cider and hot chocolate. So with the smell of cinnamon and fresh-baked pie on my mind, let’s explore the key ingredients needed for content marketing success:

  • 4 cups of Strategy: The ingredients in your content marketing pie won’t coalesce unless you have strategy to bind all the components together. Without Strategy, each of your ingredients will remain siloed. Before you start putting everything together, think your content marketing process through. Determine what you want to achieve, how you will measure success, what platforms you will use and how you will make your marketing efforts unique. Once you have a defined strategy clearly articulated, you can get started.
  • 3 tablespoons of Creativity: And make them heaping spoonfuls while you are at it. Creativity is the cornerstone of your content marketing success. A creative mindset will fuel the most innovative social media campaigns, the most compelling blog post entries and the most attention-grabbing marketing assets. While not the dominant ingredient in your content marketing recipe, Creativity is still an essential component to give your next marketing venture that extra edge and originality.
  • 1 ½ cup of Determination: Just like in baking, your content marketing strategy won’t always “taste great” the first time around. Oftentimes you will have to go right back to the drawing board and figure out other tactics to spread the message about your brand. Therefore, it is integral to have Determination in your recipe for content marketing success; without it, you will just have a bunch of dejected marketers and sales reps who are too distracted by failure to realize they can pick up and start over right away.
  • A Dash of Luck: A lot of content marketing success hinges on your company’s ability to be at the right place at the right time. Sometimes the best ideas work well one month and then fail the next. Understand that no matter how much planning, market research and analysis you put into your content marketing recipe, sometimes if luck is not on your side, your efforts will still be futile. And when it is on your side, run with it.

Mmm… I can taste the content marketing success already. Tell us, what do you think the key ingredients are for a fully-baked content marketing strategy?
