3 Ways to Keep Your Content Marketing Strategy on Track During the Holidays

For most, the month of December is spent shopping for gifts, attending holiday parties and hitting the slopes. But for content marketers, the holiday season is spent wrapping up end of year projects, drafting content and launching last-minute campaigns—all while short staffed.

Let’s face it: managing your content marketing strategy is stressful enough without having to deal with all of the distractions the holiday season brings. To avoid feeling overwhelmed and ensure your strategy continues to run smoothly, here are some helpful tips to consider:

1. Schedule social posts: Social media plays a large part in content marketing, and it’s one that can take up a great deal of time. Instead of logging in and out of your social networks numerous times a day, schedule your posts ahead of time. 2. Create an editorial calendar: If you’re like the majority (83%) of B2B marketers, chances are you don’t have a documented content strategy in place. Well, now’s the perfect time to start as things will quickly start to pile up over the holidays. Begin with creating an editorial calendar, which will map out content for the entire month. While the idea of sitting down to plan a whole month’s worth of content is overwhelming, it’s pays off. Be sure to include the following details recommended by the Content Marketing Institute:

  • The date the piece of content will be published
  • The topic or headline of the content piece
  • The author of the content
  • The owner of the content – i.e., who is in charge of making sure the content makes it from ideation to publication and promotion
  • The current status of the content (updated as it moves through your publishing cycle)

3. Produce “easy” content: Rather than try to create new content when you’re busy and short-staffed, consider ways to re-purpose the content you already have. Review your most popular blog posts for the year, then create an eBook or whitepaper for prospects to download. Or turn past presentations into “snackable” content pieces that are digestible for readers.
