The Future is Bright in 2015 For Content Marketers

shutterstock_241697203Am I the only crazy marketer out there who was actually dying to get back to work during the recent holiday season? Call me what you will but without schedules, deadlines and creative dialogue daily I get antsy. And if I have nowhere to be (like a dreamy beach vacation), I crave work.

I know you are trudging through a slew of emails and memos this week and that the last thing you need is another lengthy, information-laden message.

So I won’t keep you long; I promise.

Passive vs. Active Marketers: Which Are You?

shutterstock_209815978We’ve all heard the phrase “passive communication.” It may describe someone who lacks conviction, direction and, sometimes, respect. As such, this type of communication has given rise to the term “passive-aggressive,” or someone who tends to express negative feelings in an indirect manner rather than state their disapproval directly to the person concerned.

We’ve all dealt with the passive-aggressive individual in the business world—we may even be that person. But have we encountered the passive-aggressive marketer? Are you a passive marketer?

Overarching Theme at Inbound Marketing Summit 2014: Content is the Future

20141112_150001When I first heard of the Inbound Marketing Summit, designed for content marketing visionaries and evangelists like myself who love to convene, share, collaborate and learn, I was all in. As the Boston-hosted event neared and the agenda was posted, I was particularly intrigued with how intimate the event appeared to be.

As someone who attends a fair amount of trade shows, I am used to darting feverishly between track sessions, networking on massive trade show floors and finding the most comfortable pair of flats I can locate to survive the miles of walking. So you can imagine my curiosity when I discovered this show had zero tracks and was being held in a historic castle. But, I have to say, it was a nice change of pace.

Will We See You at Our Dec. Content Marketing Crash Course?

From our content marketing keynote panel at ITEXPO in August
From our content marketing keynote panel at ITEXPO in August

Right around the time Content Boost started holding content marketing breakouts, keynotes and panels at various trade shows—including our very own ITEXPO events—we got asked the same question by many attendees: do we ever hold seminars or training courses throughout the year? The short answer was no, but the long answer was… not yet.

Quickly, we started to pick up on a very common trend in the industry: people did not want to have to wait until conferences or trade shows to receive best-in-class content marketing training. Perhaps more importantly, they didn’t want to have to pay hundreds and hundreds of dollars for one-off seminars. Instead, they wanted a way to stay current with the latest industry trends and strategies for improving upon their existing marketing efforts.

Q&A With Joe Pulizzi: Pulling Back the Curtain on Content Marketing

I first got the chance to hear Content Marketing Institute (CMI) founder—and content marketing evangelist—Joe Pulizzi speak two years ago at CMWorld. I remember taking note of how everyone’s eyes lit up when he took the stage, of attendees furiously trying to jot down every content marketing tidbit he shared, and of the electricity in the air—which was surpassed only by Joe’s own magnetism.

IMG_5329So, imagine my excitement when I was able to lock down some time with this renowned marketing guru to get his 2 cents on the latest happenings in the content marketing space (no Joe, I am not trying to butter you up!). After all, any insight I can gain from other industry thought leaders is a gift I can bring back to our clients. Our job at Content Boost is simple: We will always be your eyes and ears in the content marketing space, bringing any insight, tools, techniques and tactics to you so that together we can implement them in your organization.

Therefore, a number of the questions I asked Joe are one’s you ask me every day. Here’s a look at some of the highlights of our conversation:

Three Things A Trip to Europe Taught Me About Content Marketing

IMG_4390I’ve just returned from a two-and-a-half week belated honeymoon to Europe (it’s hard to believe I was in Paris Monday and am somehow in Connecticut today). I’m sure you’re thinking that what I took away from the trip was an amazing dinner cruise on the Seine in Paris, an exhausting but incredible visit to Vatican City in Rome and more pasta and pizza than I can count.

And that’s all true.

But I’ve also come back refreshed, invigorated and bustling with new content marketing ideas. Yes, let’s face it, as a content marketer we can never turn it off, even when we are traipsing across Rome, Florence, the Italian Riviera and Paris.

Is Your Blog Converting Your Consumers?

shutterstock_94805161There are so many signs that I’m a content marketer (thanks for the great list of signs Brooke!). I catch myself wishing I could edit my husband’s texts for grammar, sorry sweetie!; I look at every trade show flyer, TV commercial and digital signage ad and wonder, “Could I have done better?”; and I get ridiculously excited when my number of Twitter followers grows.

I even prefer staying in resorts/hotels/getaways that rely on a robust content marketing strategy. In other words, I’m that person.

Content Boost Sweepstakes: Because Who Doesn’t Want Free Blogs and an Apple TV?

shutterstock_147643232We’ve all received this email: “Fill out our 10-minute survey for the chance to win an Amazon gift card [or insert other gift here].” And chances are you’ve probably deleted it. After all, who really has the time to fill out a survey these days? And 10 minutes? Yeah right.

So I have something better for you. I know you are in need of some sort of content marketing help. How do I know this? My good friends at Content Marketing Institute (CMI) contend that 93 percent of B2B and 90 percent of B2C marketers are leveraging content marketing even though only 42 percent of B2B and 34 percent of B2C marketers feel they are effective at it. The market research overwhelmingly confirms a central theme: marketers want in with content marketing but they are wholly unprepared to launch a successful strategy because they deal with time, resource and budgetary constraints.
