shutterstock_197018786It’s time to stroll down memory lane—it’s a short stroll, I promise, and I’ll have you back at work quickly.

How often do you take the time to revisit your past marketing projects? Like that blog entry you wrote a few years ago that achieved third-party validation in the form of an accolade. Or the email drip campaign you conceptualized just three months ago that’s already resulting in a record-breaking number of email opens.

Content Creation: A Marketer’s Double-Edged Sword

shutterstock_161159720We often come to the realization that sometimes our greatest strengths or supports can become our biggest setbacks. For example, someone who is a perfectionist can tap into that Type-A drive to execute a number of initiatives; but that unending search for betterment can also handicap progress.

Content creation is just as confusing. While marketers know that content creation, especially in the form of SEO-driven pieces, is perhaps their most effective marketing tactic today it can also prove especially frustrating. In fact, according to a recent study from Ascend2, which polled 270 B2B marketing professionals around the world, almost 60 percent identified content creation as their most effective strategy. But still, 54 percent reported that it is an extremely difficult tactic to execute well.

Inconsistent Branding: A Recipe for Disaster

blog pic 2You know it’s happened to you. You’ve chomped down on a Big Mac (or, if you are like me and abhor fast food insert your favorite mass packaged good) only to wonder, “How come this burger tastes considerably different than the one I get near my home?” And it’s a terrible feeling. After all, maybe this was the day you decided to cheat and go for something wonderfully delectable—and horribly caloric—and the inconsistent taste left you feeling wildly unfulfilled.

Now of course some brand inconsistencies are prone to human error. For example, the French Vanilla Coffee Coolatta you get from Dunkin’ Donuts may taste different from one DD to the next simply because the barista added more French vanilla this time around. But even so, we expect a level of consistency, satisfaction and dependability from our favorite brands. And when we don’t get it, we are left feeling confused, dejected and quite possibly irritated.

Three Reasons Your Boss Will Say ‘Yes’ to Content Marketing

shutterstock_135869045We feel for you, we do. It can be incredibly daunting to walk down the hall to the office to ask your boss to trust you when you say that your company needs to start a new initiative, head down another path, or launch a new product. You will undoubtedly be asked countless questions to figure out if your “gamble” is worth the bet and you will unequivocally be second guessing your proposal as the questions get fired.

But, if your idea is content marketing, hold your ground because here are three reasons your boss will say yes:

1. Your competitors are already doing it.

There is nothing worse than playing catch up… especially when it comes to business.  But facts are facts and the content marketing ones don’t lie. Here’s an impressive one: 91 percent of B2B marketers are already leveraging content marketing to bolster their corporate identities. Content Marketing: Your Biggest No-Brainer this Month

Oftentimes, the best decisions we make are those that we don’t over-think but, rather, those that just feel innately right to us.

Maybe for you it was affirming to not come to work on a Monday and instead setting out on a six-month European adventure—a journey about discovery, reflection and passion.

shutterstock_76265521Or perhaps it was when you chose to uproot your life and move to San Francisco, one of the hottest technology areas, saying goodbye to your decades-long career as legal counsel at a massive retail company and hello to your new CTO position at the technology company of your dreams. Always ‘Thinking Outside the Box?’ Maybe Something is Wrong with Your Box

I had the wonderful opportunity to spend last week in Verona, N.Y., at the NY Tech Summit—a two-day business-to-business exhibition and educational technology conference hosted by CXtec and Teracai. In addition to great networking events, top-notch exhibits by companies like Dell, Plantronics and Schneider Electric, and bleeding-edge classroom sessions, there was also a riveting keynote presentation by Travelocity Founder Terry Jones.

Terry JonesAs the Founder of Travelocity and Founding Chairman of Kayak.com, Terry knows a thing or two about innovation. That’s because Terry has a wealth of experience to pull from—from his time at American Airlines as a Director of Product Development to his 24 years at Sabre heading up the computer services, applications and product development sections to leading Travelocity since its inception in May of 2012.
